Meet it
It really exists. It is waiting for you at the Parc Animalier d’Auvergne.
The white-lipped deer, also called Thorold’s deer, is named after its white muzzle. It is one of the most majestic large deer in Asia. Its thick grey-brown winter coat keeps it warm against the extreme cold of the Tibetan Plateau, where it lives between 3,500 and 5,100 metres above sea level. Its wide hooves help it move over rocky and snowy ground. The males carry large, broad antlers that can reach 1.2 metres. It is hunted for its meat, its antlers in velvet and its organs, which are used in traditional Chinese medicine. It survives thanks to a few large nature reserves in western China.
