Meet it

It really exists. It is waiting for you at the Parc Animalier d’Auvergne.

The cotton-top tamarin is instantly recognisable by the spectacular white mane falling over its shoulders, which gives it the look of a tiny wise old man. This small, lively primate weighs barely 400 grams and lives in groups where everyone helps look after the young. It can leap more than 3 metres. It is Critically Endangered and lives only in northwest Colombia, where the lowland forest it lives in has been reduced to about 5% of its original area. It is the most threatened primate in Colombia, because of deforestation, illegal trade, and its use in laboratories in the 1960s and 1970s.
